Don’t Lose the Value of your Home… to Loose-fill Asbestos

You may think all this talk about Mr Fluffy is annoying… but it is a serious issue, one that could have significant ramifications if ignored. If present, but your property isn’t registered by August 1st, there will be no financial assistance or buy back of the property. Home owners will be on their own with an uninhabitable property.

If your property was constructed prior to 1980, it could contain this health threatening loose-fill insulation.

Whilst the Canberra-based company Mr Fluffy operated primarily in the ACT, it’s product has also been found in homes in Queanbeyan, Yass, Braidwood, Lithgow and some Sydney suburbs and also in the southern Riverina shire of Berrigan, including Berrigan, Deniliquin and Finley. Here, 17 properties have been confirmed as having the substance. Fifteen homes have also tested positive in the Greater Hume Shire, which encompasses Henty, Culcairn and Holbrook.

As at May 11th, 1,373 homes in the Wagga Wagga City Council area had registered for testing1  and due to the close proximity of areas with properties with loose-fill asbestos, there is a high likelihood that the product may be present in some properties in our city.

Unfortunately, property managers cannot assist with registration. Only property owners can register their property for a FREE inspection prior to 1st August 2016.

If your property is found to contain loose-fill asbestos and you have registered by August 1st, the NSW government will purchase affected premises and land at market value.

If you do nothing and your home does contain loose-fill asbestos, you risk being unable to sell or rent your home in the future, without expensive remediation.

Register now with Service NSW on 13 77 88 or online here.

Don’t miss the cut off date! You won’t qualify for the free inspection OR compensation if you fail to register by August 1st.

If you are unsure, please discuss it with your Tenancy Manager or Sales Agent.
