Matt Newley takes on the Big Red

30/06/2016

We’re always up for a challenge at Fitzpatricks Real Estate, especially when it involves a good cause, and running over 40 kilometres a day for a week is no exception.

Fitzpatricks Director Matt Newley is currently doing just that, taking part in the Big Red Run in the south west of outback Queensland.

The Big Red Run is a 250 kilometre, multi-day race, starting and finishing at the iconic Birdsville Hotel. The course takes in the sand dunes and open gibber plains of the majestic Simpson Desert with runners spending five nights camping out in the desert as they complete the challenging track.

The run is an annual fundraising event for The Born to Run Foundation, which seeks to increase awareness and raise money for research into finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.

Matt is keen to make a difference.

I’m inspired by the work of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Australia and wanted to support them by raising money as part of my participation in Big Red Run 2016. The more people that know about JDRF Australia, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!

At last update, Matt had completed the second 42km leg of the race in 6 hours 5 mins, ranking 11th overall and 7th in the men’s division.

If you would like to support Matt, you can contribute to the cause via his donation page here.
