5 steps to a secure investment property

house_lockIt is necessary to ensure your investment property is safe and secure for your tenant. Landlords must provide and maintain locks and security devices to ensure that the property is reasonably secure.

  • install quality locks on all doors, windows and gates
  • security screen doors will provide better protection than fly screen doors
  • install bars on windows (especially if the property is located in a high risk area)
  • sensor lights can be an effective deterrent to potential intruders
  • have the locks changed between each tenancy to ensure previous tenants can no longer gain access

It is the tenants’ responsibility to make sure that they utilise the locks and security devices provided by the landlord.
