  1. Donate and feel great – Take the time to sort out your wardrobe. Create four piles: “keep,” “store”, “donate,” and “throw away”.  Store items you will wear again next winter. If you can’t remember the last time you wore something, get rid of it! If it is in wearable condition consider donating it to charity. Fitpatricks Real Estate is proud to sponsor Heart for the Homeless, a not-for-profit organisation focused on getting resources such as clothing, furniture and appliances to those who would otherwise go without. Any unwanted furniture or non perishables can be donated to this very worthy cause. 2. Keep it natural – Mix 1 part vinegar with 9 parts water for an effective surface cleaner in the bathroom. Combine 2 parts baking soda, 1 part salt, and 1 part borax to make a scouring powder to remove soap scum from bath and shower.
  3. Leftover styrofoam balls – make great drainage in the bottom of a pot plant.
  4. Remove fingerprints from stainless steel – by placing a small amount of baby oil on a napkin to wipe stainless steel appliances to remove fingerprints.
  5. Almost everything can be washed in cold water– thus lowering your bills and helping the environment. With exception to sheets, towels and underwear, where it is best to use the hottest water possible to help prevent bacteria growth. Getting them out to dry as quickly as possible will also help prevent bacteria growth.
  6. Eucalyptus oil – does a great job at removing residue left by stickers.
  7. Use microfiber cloths – instead of cotton rags or paper towels. These cloths are composed synthetic fibers that create a static charge that attracts dirt and dust. They will not scratch surfaces and leave a streak and lint-free finish. They are great for cleaning appliances, sinks, TV and computer monitors, washing windows and for drying dishes. Best of all they can be washed and reused.
  8. Flat cola – No one likes it do they? Apparently it makes a very efficient toilet cleaner, give it a try yourself.  Try pouring as much as possible in the toilet bowl for an hour or more, give it a little scrub and flush for sparkling results.
  9. De-clutter your home – An organised home will feel bigger and more welcoming, not to mention help sell your home 😉  Do a quick run around with a clothes basket and remove anything that shouldn’t be in that room. Invest in storage solutions to make the best use of available space.
  10. Clean wooden furniture – mix lemon juice and olive oil to make a great polish. Lemon cuts through grime and the oil leaves a lovely sheen. About half a lemon mixed with a quarter of a cup of olive oil should do the job.
